New media and communications strategy released

As a committee, the Charters Towers Bulls Rugby Union Football Club will be implementing a new Media and Communications Plan.

As part of this, the CTRUFC Juniors Facebook page will again be limited to current players, their immediate family, coaches and managers and Bulls Committee Members. Past players of up to two years are also included. All other members of this page will be removed.

We identified the intent of the page was to communicate with junior players and share pictures in a safe and controlled environment. While we are encouraged by the fact this online community has grown, we would like to see the community shift to our main Facebook page and deliver content and engagement to our entire Bulls community.

It's the intention of the Committee to move photos (with appropriate permission) to our website (ctbullsrugby.com.au) to create a more stable archive of our achievements and games.

The Communications plan will be available on the website, but if there are concerns and comment, please contact secretary@ctbullsrugby.com.au

As we will commence this process in two weeks- please make sure you join our main page so you are still part of CT Bulls Rugby. If we remove you from the juniors group in error please do let us know on secretary@ctbullsrugby.com.au

It's time to Celebrate 40/41 years of Bulls rugby!

It’s all systems go for a Bullish Celebration! After a false start in 2020, the Bulls Club is proud to present our 40th, or 41st (depending on when you started counting), Celebration. This is a wonderful opportunity for players and supporters of our Club from all four decades to get together and talk rugby, friendship and everything in between.

The ticket price includes a Meet and Greet sausage sizzle on Friday night during the Under 18s games. The Knackered Bulls will also be playing against long-term rivals Brothers. Home games all day Sunday, cumulating in a Gala Dinner with former Wallaby Stephen Moore guest speaking as well as a range of personalities from all eras of the Bulls. There will also be a recovery breakfast on Sunday morning during a Walla rugby showcase and a commemoration ceremony for Club stalwarts Bob Armstrong and Ron Edgar.

Funeral notice for Ron Edgar

We have lost another stalwart in Ron Edgar. Ron has been a fixture of the Bulls Club for 40 years as patron and a generous supporter. He is well known in the Charters Towers community as a successful businessmen with a nose for opportunity and a wicked sense of humour. He's had a tremendous impact on both the club and in the Golden Oldies Knackered Bulls side.

His funeral will be this Friday, 21 February at 3.00pm. The service will be held at Gregson and Weight Funerals, 159 Wises Rd, Buderim.

From Ron’s daughter Kelly-

“Following the funeral, we will have a wake (in true Dad fashion with lots of canapés and drinks flowing) at Curlys Restaurant (6 Breezeway St, Mt Coolum) from 4.30-9.00pm. Curlys is very close to our home and was a favourite of Dad’s so it’s a fitting place to celebrate his big life. We will have a courtesy bus running guests from Curlys back to other areas of the coast until 9pm.

Please continue to send any great photos you have of Dad to me at kedga5@yahoo.com And please forward this message on to others you know of (many of Dad’s contacts are missing from his phone).

We hope you can join us next Friday. If you are joining us at the wake, we would appreciate you letting me know before Wednesday, for catering purposes.”

Funeral Notice for Robert (Bob) Armstrong

It’s with heavy hearts we have to inform you of the passing of Bob Armstrong, aged 74 years. Bob was a driving force behind the re-forming of the Bulls Club in October 1980. He was the inaugural president, with fellow committee members Jim Geaney, Peter Hulthen, Warren Inch and patron Dr Jock Allingham.

Bob spent many years as the captain and coach of the Bulls side and delighted in the growth of the game and the Club’s spirit and comradery over the many years to follow.

He was also an active member of the Knackered Bulls Golden Oldies side. In fact, he was the first Australian to ever play in a Golden Oldies World Cup competition. Bob leaves a big legacy in the Bulls family and will be sorely missed.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Bob at the White Lady Chapel, 270 Kelvin Grove Road, Kelvin Grove at 10:30am on Friday 14th February 2020.

REGISTRATION 2020

***All registration fees are to be paid during online registration and before the first game. No registration monies are to be paid direct to the club bank account please. ***

All registrations must be completed via the Rugby Xplorer platform. There will be 2 short videos to assist you with the registration process

Stage1 for new families and players - Creating an account or profile - https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cYVIXavglz

Stage 2 for all players to actually complete registration for 2020 - https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cqn16A3E8r

(the Rugby Xplorer app has been updated since this was made and there are a few new questions in the process. Please make your player profile public.  Shirts/shorts/socks will be not be offered in registration this year).

New Players  need to either download and install the Rugby Xplorer app on your mobile device or go to https://myaccount.rugby.com.au/ on your desktop. You will be prompted to create a new account. I suggest this is a job for parents. May we also suggest you all use a generic password such as Bulls2019 in case someone else needs to log in to help you. Parents and other volunteers whilst you are registering your child, we ask that you also register yourself as a volunteer – there is no cost involved but it does provide insurance if you should have an injury or accident whilst helping out with club activities.

Returning Players will be prompted to enter your email address and search. If it has your email address it will offer to send you a magic link to reset your password or if you are confident you know your password, you can click sign in manually.

PAYMENT - Rugby Australia has introduced Zip Pay to help people make payments. You need to set up an account yourself with the Zip Pay provider to take advantage of this option. Online registration is MANDATORY for all players. Visa debit, prepaid Visa cards or credit cards can be used.

Registration fees are non-refundable for change of mind.

WE DON’T WANT FINANCIAL HARDSHIP TO BE AN OBSTACLE TO ANYONE GETTING TO PLAY RUGBY. Please contact Cathy West or talk to us at training so together we can find a solution to your needs.

PLEASE NOTE THERE IS A 2% PROCESSING FEE ONLINE THAT IS SET BY THE PAYMENT PROVIDER.

All players will need to return a Medical Form which MUST be returned prior to playing.

Fair Play Vouchers - valued at $150 are redeemable with our Club. If you have a voucher/vouchers please email them to Cathy at cnc.west@bigpond.com prior to registration as the registration process will be slightly different for you and you must wait for a link with a discount code to be emailed to you.

For training you will need footy boots, rugby shorts, a training jersey (something strong with sleeves), mouth guard and other safety gear. Mouth guards are mandatory for all games. Please make sure you advise your manager or coach if you are unable to attend training or are unavailable to play. U13-17 players please advise if you will be catching the bus. Coaches need to know if you are ill or carrying an injury prior to training and playing.

REFEREES & TOUCH JUDGES As a club it is expected that we provide a referee and touch judge for each team we register. This would mostly occur at our home games. We are willing to provide support and training for anyone interested. Please contact Cathy West if you’re interested in helping out.

VOLUNTEERS Any help is always welcomed. With at least 10 junior teams in 2020 we really need your help so any Dads, Mums, wives, girlfriends or significant others who would like to help please do. Don’t think you won’t know what to do – you will be helped!
